Serket’s Story

Serket is the Egyptian goddess of protection, also associated with healing, fertility and magic. Her name means “She Who Causes the Throat to Breathe”. Originally the deification of the scorpion, Serket is often depicted as a woman with a scorpion gracing her crown.

This piece of wood was found in Cerna Valley, in the Banat region, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful places of Romania.  I came across it on a dry summer afternoon while walking on the steep and rocky slopes which stretch on the left side of the valley, above Prisaca Lake.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
