Mandragore’s Story
Mandragore, derived from French “main de gloire”, translates as ”the hand of glory”. An old European legend said that by lighting a candlestick inside it, the hand could unlock any door it came across. The candle could then be put out only with milk.
This piece of ash tree wood was found in the Piatra Craiului Mountains, in a forest above the Brustureț Gorges, on a a late summer afternoon. I was looking for raspberry bushes when I came across it, piled up together with a few other branches brought by the waters. The place was bustling with forest bees that must have found the bushes beforehand.
The Crafting Process
This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.
It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
