Aoife (The Bright One) was the second wife of the King of Lir and the sister of Eva, the King’s first wife, in Irish mythology. She was the daughter of Ailill of Aran and younger sister to Aobh who was the first wife of Lir. Legend has it that Aoife possessed magical powers.
This piece of sycamore wood was found on Cerna Valley, in Banat region, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful places of Romania. It was a hot and dry summer afternoon, while walking on the steep and rocky slopes, full of vegetation, insects, vipers and even tiny scorpions, which stretch on the left side of the valley, above Prisaca Lake.
This fragment was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, in the mountains.
This piece of wood needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding.
It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
