Aoife’s Story
Aoife, the second wife of the King of Lir and the sister of Aobh, the King’s first wife, was a renowned woman warrior in the Irish mythology believed to possess magical powers.
This piece of sycamore wood was found in Cerna Valley, in the Banat region, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful regions of Romania. I came across it on a hot summer afternoon while walking on the steep and rocky slopes which stretch on the left side of the valley, above Prisaca Lake.
The Crafting Process
This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.
It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
