Oisin’s Story

One of the most famous tales in Irish folklore involves Oisin, the son of the legendary Fionn mac Cumhaill. One day, when Oisin was hunting in the forest, he was approached by a beautiful fairy woman known as Niamh of the Golden Hair. Niamh chose Oisin as her lover and urged him to come to the land of Tír na nÓg, the land of eternal youth. He agreed and they lived there for 300 years.

This piece of sycamore wood was found in the hilly forest around Batanii Mari, in the Bodoc Mountains, on a summer afternoon. Those parts are home to a few wild forests and serene clearings. The piece of wood was partly covered by fallen leaves, I was lucky to almost step on it.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
