Kuula’s Story

The legend of Kū`ula tells the story of a fisherman living in Maui said to always land an abundance of fish after making offerings to a small shrine. He is now worshiped as the Hawaiian God of Fishermen.

This piece of willow tree wood was found in Letea Forest on a mild spring day. It was laying on the shores of Sulimanca Channel which lets the waters of the Delta flood the forest (declared a World Heritage Site since it is the most northern forest containing subtropical species).

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
