Mutumuna’s Story
The Mutumuna Falls are located above the Chishimba Falls in the Northern Province of Zambia. It is said that the spirit of Mutumuna lives a short distance south of the falls, in a shrine. The spirit represents a brother and sister – Makumba and Ngosa – who, according to legends, came into being after falling from the sky.
This piece of wood was found on a wild beach of the Black Sea, included in the Danube Delta. There is a long stretch of sand between Sfântu Gheorghe and Sulina which is almost pure wilderness. It’s one of the most serene places I know, where long walks can clear one’s mind. I came across this wood as part of a large log, which had been carried away by the waves.
The Crafting Process
This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.
It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
