STORY

In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, doorways, endings and time. He is usually a two-faced god since he looks to the future and the past. The Romans dedicated the month of January to Janus

This special piece of beech tree wood was discovered in the middle part of Baba’s Valley, in Bucegi Mountains. This particular valley is one of the wildest parts of these mountains, because it’s difficult access and rich vegetation. I found this wood during my first trip there, in an October day with a perfect weather. I remember how amazed I was by all the trees which were torn apart by avalanches and piled up on the bottom of the valley.

CRAFTING PROCESS

This fragment was not cut from a living tree. It was found lying on the ground.

This piece of wood needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding.

It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
