Ninki Nanka’s Story

In Gambia and other parts of West Africa, Ninki Nanka is believed to be a 50 metres long dragon, with the face of a horse, a crest of skin on its head and mirror-like scales.

This piece of willow root was found on the deserted and lonely seashore between the village Sfântu Gheorghe and the town Sulina, in the Danube Delta. It was a summer evening, everything was still and it seemed as if the sea almost forgot to push the land away with its tireless waves.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
