STORY

In Gambia and other parts of West Africa, the Ninki Nanka legendary dragon is believed to live in swampy areas. The beast is said to be over 50 metres long and very fierce, with a face like a horse, a crest of skin on its head, and mirror-like scales.

This piece of willow root was found on the deserted and lonely seashore between the village Sfantu Gheorghe and the town Sulina, in the Danube Delta. It was a summer evening, just before the fierce mosquitoes made their appearance. Everything was still and it seemed like the sea almost forgot to push the land away with it’s tireless waves.

CRAFTING PROCESS

This fragment is part of a willow tree root and it was found dried on the beach.

This piece of wood needed peeling, cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding.

It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.

A tiny piece of stone is embedded inside this root which makes it really special.
