Niamh’s Story

In Irish mythology, Niamh is the daughter of the god of the sea, Manannán mac Lir and one of the queens of Tír na nÓg, the land of eternal youth. In the story of Golden-haired Niamh she carries away warrior Oisín to live with her in the Land of Youth. * Check out our Oisín lamp here.

This piece of wood was found on the wild beach of the Black Sea, included in the Danube Delta, where The Danube flows into the sea. There is a long stretch of sand between Sfântu Gheorghe and Sulina which is almost pure wilderness. It’s one of the most serene places I know, where long walks can clear one’s mind. I came across this wood as part of a large log, which had been carried by the waves, on a summer evening, almost when the sun was set and the wind stopped.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
