STORY

One of the most famous tales in Irish folklore involves Niamh and Oisin, the son of the legendary Fionn mac Cumhaill. Oisin was hunting in the forest, and he was approached by a beautiful fairy woman known as Niamh of the Golden Hair. Niamh chose Oisin as her lover and urged him to come to the land of Tír na nÓg. Oisin agreed and lived with Niamh in the land of eternal youth for 300 years.

This piece of wood was found on the wild beach of the Black Sea, included in the Danube Delta, where The Danube flows into the sea. There is a long stretch of sand between Sfantu Gheorghe village and Sulina which is almost pure wilderness. It’s one of the most serene places I know, where long walks can clear one’s mind. I came across this wood as part of a large log, which had been carried by the waves, in a summer day evening, almost when the sun was set and the wind stopped.

CRAFTING PROCESS

This fragment was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

This piece of wood needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding.

It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
