Meili’s Story

Meili is one of Aesir in Norse mythology. His name appears in the Eddic poem Hárbarðsljóð Pórr lists him alone as his brother. The Prose Edda supports him immediate descent from Odin. His name appears to mean “mille-stepper”, and if accurate, could mean that he was a Norse god of travel.

This piece of wood was found on Cerna Valley, in Banat region, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful places in Romania. It was a hot and dry summer afternoon, while walking on the steep and rocky slopes, full of vegetation, insects, vipers and even tiny scorpions, which stretches on the left side of the valley, close to Vanturatoarea Waterfall. This tiny wood looked like a small ancient weapon, forgotten there by who knows what traveller.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
