Cecaelia’s Story
Cecaelias are creatures with origins in Asian and Native American mythology, that instead of being part fish, are part octopus/squid. They tend to have reddish-brown skin and hair, octopus-like eyes, webbed hands, claws, and tentacles for legs.
This piece of willow tree root was found close to Iacub Lake, alongside the small Iacub channel, in the Danube Delta, on a quiet summer evening. Evening birds and thousands of frogs were singing.
The Crafting Process
This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.
It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
