Huli Jing’s Story

Omoikane is a Shinto god of wisdom and intelligence. His name means “serving one’s thoughts.”. He was a deity of good counsel able to hold many thoughts at once or to combine in one mind the mental powers of many individuals.

This old piece of wood was part of a secular oak tree which was brought down by a storm. I found it while walking through the forest between two small villages in Câmpia Neajlovului, not far from Bucharest. It’s a young and simple forest, except for several huge old oak trees which seem like ancient guardians. I tool this piece in a pleasant spring afternoon while dogs were barking in the distance and happy birds were singing for the new season.

The Crafting Process

This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
