Arcadia’s Story
The name Arcadia is derived from the Greek province of the same name which dates to antiquity; the province’s mountainous topography and sparse population of pastoralists later caused the word Arcadia to develop into a poetic byword for an idyllic vision of unspoiled wilderness.
This piece of wood was found on the wild beach of the Black Sea, north of Gura Portitei. There is a long stretch of sand which acts like a barrier between the sea and the Golovita Lake, which goes from here up to Sfantu Gheorghe Danube’s branch. I came across an old willow tree, castaway on the beach, in a summer evening, while some horses were running around as if they were playing with the setting sun.
The Crafting Process
This piece of wood was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the beach.
It needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
