STORY

The name Itzamná comes from one of the most important of the Mayan pantheon of gods, the creator of the world and supreme father of the universe who ruled based on his esoteric knowledge, rather than his strength. Often he is portrayed as an aged man, combining the earth, heavens, and underworld. The legend says that he was in love with the God Ixchel.

This piece of wood was taken in a winter evening, from the slopes of Saint Ana’s Gorges, in Bucegi Mountains. The light was slowly fading and while I was descending through the forest I slipped and found myself hanging from this very piece of fir tree wood, as if it wanted to tell me something.

CRAFTING PROCESS

This piece was not cut from a living tree.

This little piece of wood needed, intensive cleaning, since it was part of an dried old fir tree which was barely standing. After washing and brushing it was also treated against insects and mold.
