STORY

Also known as Bran the Blessed, he was the Celtic God of Health, the brother of Branwen, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, and the son of the Welsh Sea God Lyr. His name means ‘crow’ or ‘raven,’ and he appears in the Mabinogion, a collection of ancient Welsh stories. Bran was also a sea god and is described as being so large that no house was big enough to accommodate him.

This piece of wood was found on the wild beach of the Black Sea, included in the Danube Delta, where The Danube flows into the sea. There is a long stretch of sand between Sfantu Gheorghe village and Sulina which is almost pure wilderness. It’s one of the most serene places I know, where long walks can clear one’s mind. I came across this wood as part of a large log, which had been carried by the waves, in a summer day evening, almost when the sun was set and the wind stopped.

CRAFTING PROCESS

This fragment was not cut from a living tree. It was found dry, on the ground.

This piece of wood needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding.

It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
