The name comes from the Slavic folklore, where Baba Yaga is a supernatural being who dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs. Baba Yaga may help or hinder those that encounter or seek her out and may play a maternal role and has associations with forest wildlife.

This piece of wood was recovered from a mountain creek, in Piatra Craiului Mountains. It was buried in the stream’s mud, where it had stayed hidden for who knows how long. Just a little fragment of the wood was outside but it looked intriguing enough to have worth the digging.

It was taken on a dark overcast autumn day, when everything was standing still.

This fragment was not cut from a living tree. It was found already fallen.

The old wood needed cleaning, washing, brushing and sanding. It was also treated against harmful insects, pests and mold.
